FAQ FOR TEACHER

Galaxy Explorer Competition is an annual event in Malaysia designed for primary and secondary school students from Standard 4 to Form 5. This vibrant competition invites thousands of young learners to engage in a diverse range of challenges related to space science and astronomy.

The Galaxy Explorer Competition in Malaysia consists of four stages:

1. Malaysian Astronomy Olympiad (MyAO)
2. Selection Camp
3. National Training Camp
4. International Astronomy Olympiad (IAO)

The top 10% from secondary category (14 – 18 years old) will get an opportunity to attend the Malaysian Astronomy Olympiad (MyAO) and be trained by professional and experienced trainers in this field.Top students from MyAO will have a chance to represent Malaysia in the International Astronomy Olympiad (IAO) 2025.

If your school participated in the Galaxy Explorer Competition Competition in 2024 and you are still teaching at the same school, you do NOT need to create a new ContestHub account. You can use your existing account to register for the upcoming competition by logging in with the same username and password. Please remember to update your profile details.

Each school is required to appoint at least one Teacher-In-Charge (TIC) responsible for handling registration, payment, and overseeing the competition day. The designated teacher must have a ContestHub account to ensure our secretary is informed that you are the TIC representing your school. To be officially recognized as the TIC, please reach out to our customer support team using the phone number provided in FAQs 16.

For the Galaxy Explorer Competition, our system allows up to three teachers-in-charge to be assigned per school. If your school requires more than three teachers, please don’t hesitate to contact our support team for assistance.

Yes, you will need to create a new account on ContestHub to register your students. If you use your previous ContestHub account, we will assumed that the students belong to your previous school and that you are still a teacher there. Creating a new account ensures accurate school and teacher information.

We do not have any minimum or maximum requirements for registration, as we warmly welcome all schools to participate in our competition.

Galaxy Explorer Competition competitions are open to students of all levels, from primary school to secondary school. There are different categories based on the studentsโ€™ grade level for international schools, allowing a wide range of students to participate.

Primary Category

  • Public School:ย  Standard 4, 5 & 6
  • International School: Year 4, 5 & 6

Secondary Category

  • Public School: Form 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & Pre-Uni
  • International School: Year 7, 8 ,9 ,10 & 11ย 

Students have two registration options to join the Galaxy Explorer Competition:

1. School Registration:
Students can register through their school, provided a designated teacher is appointed to manage and oversee their participation. The teacher will handle the registration process via www.contesthub.my. The registration fee for this option is RM40 per student.

2. Individual Registration:
Students can also register independently as individual candidates. In this case, the registration fee is RM60 per student.

Yes, non-Malaysian students can participate in Galaxy Explorer Competition competitions. The competitions are inclusive and open to all students studying in Malaysia, regardless of their nationality.

The Galaxy Explorer Competition provides syllabus and sample questions on their official website (https://myao.my/reading-materials) to help students prepare.

The Galaxy Explorer Competition is conducted online using the Autoproctor system and features 30 objective questions. Participants have 1 hour and 15 minutes to complete the questions, with 1 mark for each correct answer.

The Autoproctor system is accessible from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM on the competition day, allowing students to participate at any convenient time within this period. All participants are required to use a laptop, computer, or tablet with a stable internet connection and scientific calculator. List of universal constants will be provided.

Yes, the Galaxy Explorer Competition awards certificates of participation to all students who take part. Additionally, we recognize top-performing students with awards categorized as Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Honorable Mention, based on their marks.
